In a move that would have made Dell happy, the Canadian telecommunications giant announced Wednesday it will be buying the personal data of 2.5 million people, including email addresses, phone numbers and even location.
Dell’s move to buy the personal information comes on the heels of a recent report from a consumer group that found about half of all the people who subscribe to a Tracfones account are not authorized to use it.
The company has previously said it is only able to access data for those who have registered their accounts.
Trac is the parent company of both Verizon Wireless and AT&T Wireless.
The deal is expected to be finalized in the second quarter of 2018.
